Our Thematic Focus
At Srijan Foundation (SF), our work is driven by a deep commitment to creating meaningful and lasting social change. Over the years, we have defined our strategic focus through careful reflection on our mission, grounded experience from the field, and a clear understanding of the evolving social context in which we operate.
Guided by this clarity of purpose, Srijan Foundation implements its initiatives through four key thematic areas that reflect our core values of inclusivity, sustainability, and empowerment. Each theme is interlinked, ensuring a holistic approach to development that strengthens individuals, families, and communities alike.
Our thematic priorities serve as the foundation for all our interventions — helping us translate vision into action and impact into transformation.
1. Child Rights and Protection
Aim: A childhood free from exploitation, fear, and deprivation.
At Srijan Foundation, we believe that every child deserves a safe, nurturing, and empowering environment to grow, learn, and thrive. Guided by a strong rights-based approach, our work focuses on protecting and promoting the rights of children — ensuring that they are free from all forms of exploitation, neglect, and discrimination.
Our community-based child protection initiatives reach some of the most vulnerable and marginalized children in Jharkhand — including those living in coal mining areas, children without parental care, and Children in Need of Care and Protection (CNCP), particularly among Particularly Vulnerable Tribal Groups (PVTGs) such as the Birhor community, as well as survivors and Children with Disabilities (CWDs).
Through a preventive and participatory approach, we:
- Strengthen local child protection mechanisms and community vigilance systems.
- Facilitate access to quality education and essential services.
- Build resilience and life skills among children and adolescents.
- Work with families, schools, and community institutions to create a safe and inclusive environment where children’s voices are heard and respected.
At the heart of this effort lies our belief that protecting children is not just a moral responsibility — it is an investment in the future of our society. Every child we empower today paves the way for a stronger, more compassionate tomorrow.
2. Health and Well-being
Aim: Health, dignity, and knowledge for all.
At Srijan Foundation, we recognize that good health is the cornerstone of a dignified and productive life. Our work focuses on improving access to quality healthcare, awareness, and services for vulnerable and marginalized groups — including female sex workers, migrants, adolescents, and young women.
We place strong emphasis on Sexual and Reproductive Health and Rights (SRHR) and Menstrual Hygiene Management (MHM), enabling women and adolescent girls to make informed decisions about their bodies and well-being. Through community engagement, education, and behavior change communication, we break taboos, encourage open dialogue, and foster confidence and self-care among women and young people.
Our interventions also include raising awareness about Sexually Transmitted Infections (STIs) and Sexually Transmitted Diseases (STDs) — including HIV and syphilis — and facilitating access to testing, counseling, and treatment through linkages with ART centers and government health facilities.
By integrating health education with empowerment, Srijan Foundation works to ensure that every individual — regardless of gender, identity, or circumstance — lives with health, dignity, and knowledge.
3.Sustainable Agriculture and Livelihood Promotion
Aim: Sustainable farms, empowered farmers, and resilient communities.
Srijan Foundation promotes eco-friendly, climate-resilient, and women-led agricultural practices that strengthen rural livelihoods and foster environmental sustainability. Our approach is rooted in local knowledge, innovation, and collective action, ensuring that farmers are not just beneficiaries but key drivers of change.
We support farmers — particularly women farmers — to adopt low-cost, organic, and zero-chemical farming models, enhancing both productivity and soil health.
Key interventions include:
- Sack farming, kitchen gardens, and community nurseries to improve food security and household nutrition.
- SRI (System of Rice Intensification), DSR (Direct Seeded Rice), and machan cultivation for climate-resilient production.
- Promotion of livestock management, seed banks, and sustainable composting techniques such as vermicomposting and NADEP composting.
- Training on Non-Pesticide Management (NPM) and Integrated Nutrient Management (INM) to reduce input costs and protect the environment.
Through these integrated interventions, SF not only enhances agricultural productivity and income but also builds community resilience and strengthens local economies — creating pathways toward sustainable rural transformation.
4. Women Empowerment and Gender Justice
At the heart of Srijan Foundation’s mission lies an unwavering commitment to gender justice and women’s empowerment. We believe that empowering women is essential for achieving social equity and sustainable development.
Through collectivization, leadership development, and rights-based advocacy, SF supports women to assert their rights, challenge discrimination, and participate meaningfully in decision-making at all levels. We facilitate the formation and strengthening of women’s groups, federations, and community-based institutions that serve as powerful platforms for collective voice and action.
Economic empowerment remains a key pillar of our work. We provide skill development, entrepreneurship support, and market linkages that enhance women’s financial independence and social standing. At the same time, we promote awareness on gender-based violence, legal rights, and access to justice — ensuring that women live free from fear, violence, and inequality.
By enabling women to lead change within their homes, communities, and institutions, Srijan Foundation continues to advance a future where equality and dignity are not aspirations — but realities for every woman.
Together for Sustainable Change
Across all thematic areas, Srijan Foundation integrates community participation, human rights principles, and sustainable development practices. Our goal is to empower marginalized groups to become active agents of change — shaping their own destinies and building resilient, equitable communities.
We believe that real transformation happens when people are informed, included, and inspired to lead.
“Building lives. Strengthening communities. Inspiring change.”
